OUR VISION
Our vision is best summarized with a story about a woman who lived in the Arlington community for most of her life. Sara Powers was born in Beaufort, SC in the late 1920s. As a young adult, she moved to Jacksonville along with her mother and sisters in search of opportunity. For 20 years, she worked as a bookkeeper for local automotive companies. After raising her daughter, she set out at the age of 51 to build a small accounting firm which she operated for more than 30 years. While it may seem extraordinary to set out on such an adventure in her 50s, it doesn't compare to the compassion and energy that was woven throughout the way she served all of her clients for the following 30 years.
You probably did not know Sara or her business Power Accounting Services. However, she had a key impact on my life and the way I've understood the relationship between a business and its customers. She was my grandmother and as I spent time at her home office in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I didn't realize the impact that she was making on me as I observed her serving in the relationships she had been entrusted with in this community. Sara Powers gave my family a legacy that has been a breath of fresh air as I look around at the business owners in our community and think about the possibilities of what needs we can meet.

WHO ARE WE

SCOTT BROWN
OWNER / FOUNDER
This community has given me so much. I grew up in Jacksonville FL in the 80's and 90's going to Jax Beach over the summers and spending the later part of my childhood watching the beginning years of the Jacksonville Jaguars. After going to the University of North Florida, I invested the early part of my career within the Jacksonville market with some time spent in Big 4 public accounting and the majority of my time at a variety of small to mid-sized businesses that serve this local community.
While I learned the technical skills in accounting through my time at UNF and through the CPA exam, most of what I have learned has been through service alongside business owners who are striving through the fight of producing a great product and service while also carefully managing the tension that comes with the finances of a small business. I've learned that these businesses are a critical part of our community and yet owning these businesses is not for the faint of heart.
These organizations often need support from someone with strong financial acumen that has both the technical skills in finance and the ability to partner with these leaders to understand their strategic plans and to tell the story of how they will get there. This is the need that I hope we can meet at Bold City CFO.
